How to Apply This License

Four steps to license your own work under the Parachute Commons License.

1. Include the notice in your work

Add the following notice to the top of your files, in your README, or wherever license information is typically placed:

This work is licensed under the Parachute Commons License (PCL) Version 1.0.

You are free to use, share, and adapt this work under the terms of the PCL. Permissions are broad for personal, educational, and research use. Commercial use, automated ingestion, and institutional reuse are subject to adaptive restrictions. See the full license for details.

2. Include the full license text

Place the complete Parachute Commons License text in a file named LICENSE in the root of your project or alongside your work. The full text is available on the Full License Text page.

3. Document your intent

Consider adding a brief statement that explains why you chose the PCL. For example:

This project uses the Parachute Commons License because we believe shared work should remain open without being exploited. We welcome reuse, remixing, and collaboration. We ask only that you honor the provenance of this work and engage in good faith.

4. Mark derivative works

If you are distributing a work derived from a PCL-licensed original, include the following alongside your own license notice:

This work is derived from [Original Work Name], which is protected under the Parachute Commons License (PCL) Version 1.0. The original work and its license terms apply to the portions derived from that source.
